Attachment Issues With Hair Replacement Systems

Every new hair system wearer faces some challenges at the beginning of their journey. Mostly these challenges are related to the attachment of the non-surgical hair replacement system if you are using a bonded one. Hormonal changes affect body chemistry, which causes the bond to change a bit.

In this article we have mentioned the issues you might face and how to manage them if you face any of these.

Skin Issues

Minor skin irritation or itching is the most common in non-surgical hair replacement. People think that the irritation is due to tape or the adhesives used. But irritation can also occur due to certain products, like certain shampoos, solvents or exfoliants. If you feel any kind of irritation in your skin, get in touch with your hair replacement expert immediately so that he can help you out.

It’s very normal to see some redness in your scalp after using cleaning products or when you remove the tape. However, if, along with the redness, you see any kind of swelling, take off your hair system immediately, and give your scalp a chance to breathe.

If irritation is minor, you just need to try a different adhesive.

Some steps you could take to avoid irritation during and after the attachment of hair replacement systems:

Make sure to clean your scalp properly, so there’s no residue or product that’s left behind on your scalp.
Always use a scalp protector as it protects your skin from irritation by creating a barrier between your skin and the adhesive.
Avoid products that are citrus-based or contain alcohol. Both these can cause a stinging feeling.
Limit adhesive coverage to as much as is necessary.

Bond Breakdown

It can be extremely frustrating for a new hair system wearer if your hair system starts to lift off the scalp. This is one of the most common problems hair system wearers face. However, it can get very confusing what causes the bond to break. Let’s take a look at some of the issues that may cause the bond to break.

New lace system: If you have just got a brand new lace system attached, the lace base has some silicone residue left on it. Since the lace fabric is very fine, the adhesive does not stick properly due to the residue.

In this case, you could wash the lace base with dishwashing liquid to get rid of the residue. If it’s the first time you have attached the hair system, you might still need a touch-up even if the base has been cleaned.

Ineffective scalp preparation: If the tape or glue does not stick to the scalp but stays on the base, it could be due to poor scalp preparation. To prepare the scalp 3 things to need to be ensured:

Do not get your hair system wet till the first 48 hours after fixing it. Activities such as swimming, showering, and working out should be completely avoided. B) The scalp needs to be thoroughly cleaned off any adhesive or solvent so that there’s no residue remaining. C) We suggest you always use a scalp protector. You can also combine 2 different scalp protectors for it to be more effective.

Adhesive application: If you are following all instructions, but still experience lifting, you might need to add more layers of the adhesive. If after adding more layers, the hair system still comes off, you need to try a different adhesive. It takes some trial and error to determine the right one.

Base cleaning: If the adhesive sticks to the scalp but not to the base, it means the base has not been cleaned properly. This could be f the solvent wasn’t properly cleaned from the base, or if there’s any conditioner residue left on the base. We suggest never putting conditioner on the base, but only on the hair in the system. The adhesive buildup could be another reason. Try a solvent soak to remove any adhesives from the base.

Oily scalp: If you’ve followed all protocols, but still have the same experience of your hair system lifting off, you could have oily skin. You will know this if you see any yellow-colored tint on the tape or liquid adhesive when you take off the system, or if you’ve always needed to wash your hair often because it gets greasy.

3 things you need to evaluate if you have oily skin:
If the current scalp protector you use isn’t working, try a stronger one.
Try non-citrus solvents as citrus-based ones make the skin produce more oil.
Alcohol-based products need to be avoided too. These aggravate the skin, which causes the skin to produce more oil.

If you face odor issues due to oily skin, using an enzyme spray helps. Check with your hair replacement expert regarding the same.

Sweat: If you notice a milky white color on your tape or liquid adhesive, sweat is the issue. Some tips for you if you sweat too much:

Try keeping the fan or air conditioner on during the attachment of the hair system. Also, after the attachment is done, avoid sweating by staying cool for at least 48 hours.
Try experimenting with another adhesive in case that works.

Troubleshooting is an ongoing process with hair systems. It takes some trial and error and a couple of months till you get it all figured out. If all else fails, try servicing more often.
